Julie and Dan volunteering for Tom's Turkey Drive

The Inland Northwest has plenty of need when it comes to food insecurity, but neighbors have always stepped up to help.

April is National Volunteer Month, and Second Harvest would like to celebrate the members of our community who generously donate their time to serve people facing hunger. Your support truly makes an impact, and your generosity inspires others to get involved.

This inspiration can turn into a calling and lead individuals to lifelong service, which was the case for Julie and her husband, Dan.

Julie and Dan sorting pasta in the volunteer centerJulie started working at Second Harvest about 12 years ago. From this experience, the couple found a passion to help their community.

“While working part-time at Second Harvest, I was able to see what Second Harvest does to help those in need and appreciate those who give. I just knew I wanted to be a giver,” she said.

After learning about a variety of volunteer opportunities, Dan decided to get involved. He quickly found out how fun volunteering can be.

His favorite part is the “the party atmosphere. Whether it is singing with the music at the Volunteer Center, costumes at the Turkey Trot, food at ‘The Bite’ or just chatting with everyone at food distribution events, it’s always a great vibe.”

“I have a genuine love with volunteering at Second Harvest, and my goal is to introduce as many people as I can to join me in the enthusiasm in helping our community!” she exclaimed.

A big thank you goes out to Julie, Dan and every person who has volunteered. Your contributions are appreciated and make a difference every day.
