Already submitted your grant?

DAF grants sometimes arrive without donor details attached, so a quick email to taxsmart@2-harvest.org makes sure we can acknowledge your gift properly.

A DAF is a giving account, and you may already have one

A DAF is a charitable giving account that lets you contribute money or appreciated assets, receive an upfront tax deduction and then recommend grants to the charities you choose on your own timeline.

If you work with a financial advisor or have an account with one of the providers listed here, there’s a good chance a DAF is already set up in your name.

Ask your advisor. You might be sitting on funds ready to grant.

Common DAF providers

  • Fidelity Charitable
  • Vanguard Charitable
  • Schwab Charitable
  • National Philanthropic Trust
  • Community foundations
  • And many others — ask your financial advisor

Find the DAF giving path that works for you

Beyond a check or credit card, these giving options can help you reduce your tax burden while doing more good. The right path depends on your situation.

Deduct now, grant later

You get the tax deduction when you fund your DAF — not when you make the grant. Take the deduction in a high-income year and direct the funds to Second Harvest whenever you’re ready.

No deadlines, no expiration

Your DAF stays active and can be invested for potential growth. There’s no pressure to grant by a certain date. Give when it feels right, in whatever amount makes sense for you.

Stocks and assets welcome

DAFs can accept appreciated stocks, mutual funds and other assets. In many cases, you avoid capital gains taxes and still claim the full fair-market value as your deduction.

Every dollar you grant provides food for three meals. A $1,000 grant feeds 3,000 neighbors. A $10,000 grant feeds 30,000. Your grant has more reach than you might think.
