HANFORD FEEDING FAMILIES FUNDRAISER
The Hanford Prime Contractors and their labor union partners, HAMTC and the Central Washington Building Trades, have created the Hanford Feeding Families Fundraiser to help support people facing hunger during the COVID-19 crisis. They’ve set a goal of raising $50,000 for Second Harvest and are inviting the public to participate. If you’d like to donate to the Hanford Feeding Families Fundraiser, you can do so here from May 18 to 27. Learn more about the fundraiser here. Thank you to the Hanford community for your support during this crisis!
SUPPORT FROM PENINSULA TRUCK LINES
Many thanks to Peninsula Truck Lines, who is donating driver time and trucking to help us reach the last miles of our service area with Washington Emergency Food Boxes. Peninsula Truck Lines is taking on multiple routes for Second Harvest that include stops in Colville, Kennewick, Moses Lake, St. John, Walla Walla and several other communities. When possible, they’re also picking up Washington grown fresh produce donations for Second Harvest along the way. We value our partners at Peninsula Truck Lines for their contribution to our pandemic response efforts!

RED NOSE DAY
May 21 is Red Nose Day, a campaign with the mission to end child poverty by funding programs that keep children safe, healthy and educated. The campaign uses entertainment to bring people together to laugh and have fun, all while raising life-changing funds for the children that need it most. You can join an action-packed, three-hour block of Red Nose Day programming on Thursday, May 21, at 8 p.m. on NBC, including the first-ever “Celebrity Escape Room” featuring Ben Stiller, Jack Black, Courtney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Adam Scott and more. This campaign supports charities globally that are positively impacting children. Red Nose Day funding has helped Second Harvest to get food to kids facing hunger throughout the region. #RedNoseDay #NosesOn!
VOICES OF HOPE
Second Harvest supplies prepacked food boxes to the Spokane Food Fighters, who deliver them to some of the most vulnerable people in our community. “I’m a single mom of a 16-year-old girl. We are very grateful for the food boxes from Spokane Food Fighters. It definitely does help out with keeping fresh healthy food on the table while she’s out of school. I thank all the volunteers for keeping this as a resource at this tough time. What an amazing way to reach out to the community and help those less fortunate. Being able to deliver is also amazing! Truly a blessing. Thank you!” -Christa, Spokane

Food Sourcing Update – September 29
Nearly six months after the federal COVID-19 emergency was lifted, obtaining food continues to be extremely challenging. News stories and conversations with our fellow Feeding America food banks confirm that food sourcing difficulties are nationwide.
That’s why we are so fortunate to be able to access Feeding America’s Choice System to obtain a variety of quality, nutritious food.

How to Host a Fundraiser – September 22
Looking for a fun way to celebrate your birthday, company event or holiday? Hosting a fundraiser for Second Harvest is easy and makes an impact. You can raise funds online or host a food drive in person. We’ll give you the tools to get set up, share your event and start collecting. Every dollar donated makes a difference for neighbors experiencing food insecurity.

Serving Those Who Serve Our Country – September 15
Steve and his wife both retired from the Army, and he also spent time as a civil engineer in the Navy. His career has been a life of service to our country. Today, he is a member of the civilian workforce at Fairchild Air Force Base.
With economics the way they are today, Steve accesses Second Harvest Mobile Market free food distributions on base.
Naturally cheery, Steve manages a smile even when he explains “Times are hard.” Simultaneously, he proudly adds, “We have two kids, 13 and 14. They eat like crazy and are growing like mad.”
