SPOKANE FOOD POLICY COUNCIL SURVEY, VOICES OF HOPE – AUGUST 14

SPOKANE FOOD POLICY COUNCIL SURVEY

Would you like to help improve our local food system? We value your support and know you care about food. As one of the founding members of the Spokane Food Policy Council, Second Harvest hopes you will add your voice to future plans to reduce food insecurity and improve our regional food system. Your participation in the Spokane Food Policy Council’s survey will raise awareness of food system challenges and inform an action plan that encourages new opportunities for economic development, jobs and improved health for all residents of Spokane County.

Your survey responses will be used to identify priorities for a sustainable regional food system. The survey is anonymous and will take about 10 minutes to complete. Thank you for helping the Spokane Food Policy Council move forward with this important work. Your input is invaluable! To access the survey, click here – and please share with your friends.

VOICES OF HOPE

“Thank you very much. It’s very appreciated – I think probably by everybody that comes here. But I know I appreciate it, and the people I have shared it with really appreciate it. I just think that this is a blessing. It really is.”

Sharon shared these words as she waited in a long line of cars for a Mobile Market free food distribution to begin. As a retiree and someone in a high-risk category for COVID-19 complications, the distributions help her not only access healthy food on a limited budget but also stay socially distanced from others in the process.

“For somebody that doesn’t have a lot of money or is no longer getting a paycheck, these are crucial for them. They’re so wonderful,” said Sharon. Read more of Sharon’s story here.

Feed365: Fighting Hunger Year-Round – April 26

What do three warehouses, 250 food banks, and 50,000 square miles have in common? The short answer: A LOT of moving parts! The slightly longer answer? They all have or need cold storage, fuel for vehicles, and a dedicated army of volunteers. Oh, and they’re all part of the daily operations here at Second Harvest that members of Feed365 support year-round!

Feed365, Second Harvest’s recurring giving program, is an opportunity to not just sustain, but consistently grow many of the key programs here at Second Harvest.

Food Safety First: – April 19

In January and March, AIB International conducted audits of our facilities – the Pasco Distribution Center, the Spokane Distribution Center and the Wolff Family Child Hunger Solution Center. As has been the case for more than a decade, we received scores of 930 or higher, out of a possible 1000. Anything above 900 is considered exemplary.

While receiving high scores from AIB is important, we are equally proud of the fact that any day of the year, our team is always working to keep our buildings clean and our food supply safe. This speaks to the strong food safety culture we have here at Second Harvest.
