MAPPING THE IMPACT OF HUNGER – MARCH 24

Second Harvest is proud to serve people facing hunger in the Inland Northwest.
Food insecurity impacts people in every county in the United States, based on Feeding America’s most recent Map the Meal Gap study. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, people who are food insecure may have less access to quality food or a variety of food.
As a partner food bank of Feeding America, Second Harvest serves people facing hunger in 21 counties in Eastern Washington and five in North Idaho. There are many different names and faces to hunger, and the picture of hunger varies by location. That’s why we are excited to showcase our new Impact Maps.
These maps highlight hunger by the numbers in each county, as well as the impact that Second Harvest, along with countless supporters and partners, has had in each region. Hovering over each county highlights how many people and children may be going to bed hungry in the Inland Northwest. Clicking on each county will display an Accountability Report showing hunger-relief efforts in the area from July 2021 to June 2022. Each report highlights food for meals provided and fresh produce distributed, among other items. We are also proud to elevate our hunger-relief partners in each part of our service territory.
The Accountability Reports provide a time to reflect on our partnerships and the ways that we feed, nourish, and build our communities. However, there’s still more work to be done. Rising food prices and decreasing food supplies will continue to prove challenging. Second Harvest is grateful for everyone who is committed to working toward ensuring no one in our community will go to bed hungry.
