Tony and Shawna are a dynamic duo who have devoted their lives to traveling the country in their RV and volunteering. “We do a month in each city, we travel around, and we volunteer somewhere basically every single day,” Shawna explained. They call it “Marriage on a Mission.”
During their time in Spokane, Tony and Shawna volunteered 20 hours at Second Harvest, sorting fresh produce and building Bite2Go weekend food supplies for students in need. As they wrapped up their last of eight volunteer shifts at Second Harvest, they shared their inspirational story.
“Once the last child left the house we realized, we had a big house, an empty house, too much of a house, and stuff, and decided to give it all up and just take off volunteering full time,” Tony recalled. “We just want to spread the love,” Shawna added.
In under a year, Shawna and Tony have touched cities in Florida, Tennessee, Alaska, Mississippi, South Carolina, and now Spokane. Their journey to make a difference is far from over. “It’s just about showing up and saying yes, how can I help, what can I do,” Shawna said.
Tony and Shawna made a broad impact in Spokane as they also donated time to Habitat for Humanity, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, Truth Ministries, and the food pantry at Southside Christian Church. People like Shawna and Tony are the reason Second Harvest can serve people facing hunger. To them and every dedicated volunteer, Second Harvest thanks you.
