National Agriculture Month: Celebrating Ag Partners and Friends

Author: Babe Nyberg

We take immense pleasure throughout the year in celebrating our agriculture partners and friends. But during National Agriculture Month, we take extra measures to recognize their continued support, contributions and commitment to Second Harvest’s mission of serving people facing hunger.

Our ag partners range from small, local farms to large industry farms, livestock operations, and the processing and manufacturing plants that support them.

Throughout the year, our food sourcing team visits our partners’ farms and production Manny Imperial and Babe plants to cultivate relationships. Seeing firsthand how they grow their crops has been educational, intriguing and an honor. Their dedication to their land, family, crops, employees and consumers is immeasurable.

We rely on their generosity for a diverse range of nutritious foods. Meat, dairy, potatoes, corn, onions, mushrooms, carrots, apples, stone fruit, soft fruit, and seasonal vegetables are just a few. WHEW!

Without the dedication of these partners, our mission would be … impossible. Our ag partners deliver their products to our distribution centers, sort their donations in our volunteer centers, and share them at our Mobile Market free food distributions.

We are fortunate to live in a region that is steeped in agriculture. When you put this and the generosity of our ag partners together, we can clearly see the impact they are making daily.

To celebrate National Agriculture Month, our longtime partners AgWest Farm Credit and Northwest Agricultural Consultants are matching the first $15,000 donated — providing more nourishing food for our neighbors in need.

AgWest Farm Credit, the lead sponsor of Ag Month, is an agricultural lending cooperative with more than a century of experience serving farmers, ranchers, timber harvesters, and aquatic producers throughout the West.

“AgWest Farm Credit understands the crucial importance of a robust and productive agricultural industry to nourish communities,” shared Heidi Whitman, director of marketingAgWest Logo CMYK FullColor and public relations. “It’s especially vital that we join hands in efforts to cultivate fresh and nutritious food to share with our neighbors who are experiencing food insecurity. Good food fosters great communities, and we take pride in working alongside local farmers, producers, and Second Harvest to make a difference throughout the Inland Northwest.”

Northwest Agricultural Consultants has sponsored Ag Month since 2019. “We are fortunate to live in an area with both great soils and hardworking growers, which combine to Northwest Agricultural Consultants logo create one of the most important food-producing regions in the world,” said Wade Carter, president of Northwest Agricultural Consultants, Inc.

As we March into this month, we salute all our ag partners and friends, and those who make the ag world go round.
