BACK2SCHOOL WITH BITE2GO

The Great Pumpkinfest!
The Loera Family has been in agriculture for over 30 years and when the pandemic hit, they had the idea to grow pumpkins and sell 5,000 of them to the community and donate all proceeds back to feeding kids. With the help of everyone involved, they raised over $34,000 to feed 160 kids for an entire school year. This year, they are planning to bring 15,000 pumpkins in “from the farm (Moses Lake) to the city” in order to support YoungLife, Generation Alive, Ronald McDonald House and our Bite2Go program. Spokane’s Brickwest and Bellwether Brewing are supporting this effort by hosting as event locations from October 8th-October 10th. There will be line dancing, face painting, live bands, raffles, and more!

Back to school season is back. And while going back to school may look a little different this year, there are some students going back with an all-too-familiar school year uncertainty: hunger.
What is Bite2Go?
Bite2Go is a weekend food program for students facing chronic food shortages at home. Bite2Go gives children access to a mix of easy-to-open, single-serving, nutritious, nonperishable and ready-to-eat food for meals and snacks for over the weekend, helping kids return to school ready to learn on Mondays. Today, Second Harvest, in partnership with At The Core, and generous community organizations who “adopt” a school in Spokane and the Tri-Cities are providing over 6,000 elementary, middle and high school students with food for the weekends throughout the school year. Second Harvest also has a growing list of rural partners joining the fight to end childhood hunger.
