No one should go hungry, especially a child. Forty percent of the people served by Second Harvest are children, who by no fault of their own do not have access to enough nutritious food to live a healthy, active lifestyle. Second Harvest is stepping up to make sure no kid goes to bed hungry.
CHILD HUNGER ENDS HERE
Hunger is unacceptable. Second Harvest reaches children in need and their families through our network of partner food banks, meal sites and our Mobile Market free food distributions. There also are programs that allow us to get food right into the hands of children who need it.
A BUILDING DEDICATED TO ADDRESSING CHILD HUNGER
The Wolff Family Child Hunger Solution Center includes 13,000 square feet of warehouse space dedicated to getting more food to youth who need it most. This additional physical space helps us manage more food supplies for child-focused programs like Bite2Go, which provides weekend meals and snacks for thousands of students in need.
In partnership with At The Core –a backpack food program – (www.atthecore.online), Bite2Go provides children with a mix of easy-to-open, single-serving, nutritious, nonperishable food items for meals and snacks over the weekend during the school year. Today, Second Harvest, along with generous community organizations who “adopt” a school, are providing 9,200+ elementary, middle, and high school students food for the weekends through our Bite2Go and Bite2Go XL programs. “Adoptive organizations,” including businesses, civic groups and churches, cover the cost of the food, while school counselors and other staff identify kids who would benefit from receiving food from Bite2Go. Many of these children face chronic food shortages at home and without Bite2Go would not get enough to eat on Saturdays and Sundays.

SCHOOL FOOD PANTRIES
Second Harvest also feeds children at school pantries in high-need schools throughout our service territory thanks to partners like Communities in Schools (www.spokane.ciswa.org) and school staff. Second Harvest stocks the shelves of the pantry, and school staff and student leaders ensure it gets to students in need.
