MOBILE MARKET, VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY, RACE TO END HUNGER AND MORE – JUNE 5

MOBILE MARKET

Second Harvest’s Mobile Market team has been working hard during this time to get food to people who need it throughout the region. Hear from Todd, one of our Mobile Market drivers, about his experience facilitating these distributions during the COVID-19 pandemic in this video

This week marked the fifth Mobile Market free food distribution at the Toyota Center in Kennewick. Thursday’s event, shown in this video, served 700 families. We’re grateful for the Toyota Center team and inspired by their partnership to address hunger in the community during this time.

MOBILE MARKET VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

Volunteers are needed to support Second Harvest’s drive-thru Mobile Market distribution at the Spokane County Fair & Expo Center on June 19 from 3 to 7 p.m. Please wear a mask to comply with CDC recommendations. If you’d like to volunteer for this event, please sign up here. Contact Gage at gage.catherman@2-harvest.org or 509-252-6243 with questions.

RACE TO END HUNGER

Second Harvest supporter Lance Harpe ran 100 miles to fight hunger in the Tri-Cities on May 29. When the 100-mile race he had been training for was canceled, he decided to run to raise money for Second Harvest instead. “I would like to do something good with my training! To help support the community, I’m going to run 100 miles in Cherry Hill Estates starting at 8 a.m. on Friday, May 29, and lasting for approximately 24 hours. This is an effort to raise funds for Second Harvest Tri-Cities,” he said. Thank you, Lance, for your incredible commitment to getting food to people who need it in your community! Lance has extended his fundraiser through Saturday. To donate in support of Lance or learn more about his race, click here

VOICES OF HOPE

“I want to thank you guys from the bottom of my heart. Today, Second Harvest came through Post Falls doing a food drive. My family is grateful! My husband was laid off for two months, and with the kiddos out of school, we’ve been struggling. Today I know that my kids will be fed, and I don’t have to wake up stressed because now we can have fun as a family making meals together for the next couple of weeks. Thank you so much.” -Ana, Post Falls

Gonzaga’s Dusty Stromer and Zilch: Teaming up to end hunger – March 29

Dusty Stromer understood from a young age that while his family had enough to eat, others in his circle were not so fortunate. Dusty had a courtside seat to food insecurity — he says that by age 10, he knew some of his friends came from households where food was not reliably available.

A freshman shooting guard on the men’s basketball team at Gonzaga University, Dusty recently got a close look at the fight against hunger by touring Second Harvest’s warehouse and helping to distribute free food through its Zilch program.

Grocery Rescue: Changing lives daily – March 22

Your visit to a local grocery store may seem like a routine, unimportant chore. That perfect strawberry, tomato or apple you select is made possible because different departments of your neighborhood store carefully maintain a standard for each product. But what happens when the banana is too green, or the strawberries are too ripe? That product is stranded and without rescue would find its way to the landfill. Thanks to stores partnering with Second Harvest’s Grocery Rescue program, that nutritious food is shared with partner agencies throughout the 26 counties in Eastern Washington and North Idaho served by Second Harvest.
