We are fortunate to live in a state that produces some of the highest quality grains in the world. Wheat farmers are among the strongest drivers of positive economic activity in Eastern Washington. Washington Grain Growers Against Hunger is a partnership opportunity for grain growers to designate a share of their sold crop as a cash donation to the pioneering hunger-relief agency, Second Harvest.
The food industry donates the bulk of Second Harvest's inventory --nearly 80 percent last year. Generous support from community financial donors help pay for transportation, storage and distribution logistics of this food to 250 food banks and meal centers spread across the service area. This is what makes it possible for Second Harvest to provide free food to local programs that are feeding more hungry people than ever before.
Washington wheat country overlaps nearly all of Second Harvest's service territory, encompassing all 21 counties in Eastern Washington and five in North Idaho.
